1. Arrive Early... the longer it takes to finish those few special touches on your hair or make-up the less time we have during the photo shoot. If your session is with your pet take time before the shoot to groom them.
2. Clothing... Solids photograph best so stay away from plaids, stripes or large patterns. Vary the outfits you bring perhaps something dressy, something a bit more casual and an outfit in between would work great. Most sessions we do full body shots as well as half body shots so plan your wardrobe changes accordingly. Plan full outfits, you're better off bringing too many choices, than not enough.
3. Group portraits... coordinate outfits whether dressy or casual. Nice casual arrangements are jeans or kahkis with solid shirts. You can always mix shirt colors for a bit of spice... girls in white, boys in blue and so on.
4. Props... Bring them with you! Bring props that help define who you are. Some good examples are sports gear (basketballs, soccer balls, football), sports uniforms, musical insturments, etc. Whatever your interest we'll try to incorporate it into the shot. For Pet Portraits bring their favorite tug/ball/toy or perhaps you have a service dog, bring their vest, ribbons, etc.
5. Glasses... most glasses glare! Some more than others. Many optometrists will loan empty frames similiar to yours for the photo session. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask.
6. Acne, tattoos, scars... don't worry about them! Anything you want removed, just let us know and we'll digitally remove them. I go over every photo from the shoot and adjust any minor corrections needed free of charge.
7. Hats... a hat can be a great prop especially if it's part of you however a dull, faded or torn baseball cap may not be the best choice for a formal family portrait. Again coordinate your outfit.
8. Make up... needs to be slightly heavier than normal for photo shoots. For some that don't wear make-up and chose to go bare great but you can also try simple mascara and blush for a natural yet spicy shot.
9. Jewelry... keep it simple!
10. Be prepared... if you have a shot that you've seen in the past that you can't live without, bring a copy of it with you. Books, magazines, year books, etc. can help us reach your end goal without having to guess what specific look you're desiring. We are full of ideas but due to time limitations if you really want a specific pose let's discuss it before the shoot so we can concentrate on exceeding your expectations.
